I have spent the last six days at a writers retreat in the Tinker Mountains of southern Virginia. I started thinking about getting away to focus on my writing during the last weeks of Annie's life. I did a little research, but didn't sign up right away. I knew that I needed to bring that chapter to a successful conclusion before I could make big plans for the future. About two weeks after the funeral, I signed up for the retreat, just making the cut off.
My primary objective for attending the retreat was to surround myself with other writers in the hopes that I finally would begin to identify as one. I also hoped to get some training on the craft of writing, and wanted to spend some quality time working on my "big project." The week met all these expectations and provided so much more:
