Note from the editor: I wrote this blog post on New Year's Day--January 1, 2015. For some reason, I never published it. So, I am publishing it about five weeks late. Maybe it will offer a little inspiration for setting some goals for 2015, even though New Year's resolutions are so yesterday! It's never too late to start living the life you desire.
I absolutely LOVE New Year's Day! When I was in high school, Franklin day planners were all the rage in the business world. My mom even got me one. I started using it college, and loved the mission writing exercises it included.
One year, I spent New Year's Eve with a good friend in Harrisburg, PA. The next morning, we slept in late and talked about our dreams for the year ahead for hours. I pulled out my Franklin planner and did more of my mission setting exercises. My all-time favorite is "Have Do Be." I use it in my own workshops.
Thus began an annual ritual. Each January 1, I stay in the house and set my goals for the upcoming year--plus the next four! The sessions seem to get longer each year to accommodate all my dreams and visions of the future--and reflections on the past. I started a week ago, and am finally finishing up. Today I realized it's more than I can ever do in my own strength, knowledge, and ability. So after about six hours of thinking and planning, I prayed.
"God give me the guidance, wisdom and strength to bring forth all these dreams. I believe they are from you, and you want them to happen. I just can't do it on my own. I need you!"
When I grumble and forget that prayer later this year, please remind me. Thanks!
