I was born in New York City. Then we moved to Central New Jersey when I was 10. The small town in which we lived (Old Bridge, NJ) was the very beginning of the Jersey shoreline, which continues for hundreds of miles down to Cape May. I grew up going to the shore all the time! There were school field trips to Sandy Hook and family outings to Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant. My grandmother lived in a waterfront town down South, so I got to spend lots of time at the beach during my summers there. To say the least, I am a certified beach gal!
Living in the Nation's Capital has been very challenging, because the nearest real beach is three hours away! In my 40-odd years on Earth, DC is the first place where I have lived that I couldn't get to a beach with sand and water within 90 minutes. So, I make it a point to get to the beach at least once a year. In the 7-1/2 years I have been in DC, I have escaped to the beach seven times. So, I was pretty psyched this week as I prepared to head to Martha's Vineyard for the first time. This week's Celebrations is dedicated to my upcoming beach vacation.
